Dental Implants.
Dental implants are an excellent option to replace lost teeth with a more permanent solution. They are made to look, feel and function like your natural teeth.
Dental implants are definitely worth exploring as a more natural alternative to bridges or dentures. Getting dental implants can boost your oral health and even your self-esteem!
Dental implants involve a screw being placed in your jaw bone to support a replacement tooth. The implant acts like the root of a natural tooth. Implants can also be used to support fixed bridges or dentures. A local anaesthetic will be used for this procedure and you can also discuss additional sedation with us if you feel you need it.
How are dental implants put in?
Implant treatment has two different stages. The first, when the implant is placed in the jaw, will typically take place about 6 – 8 weeks after an extraction has been carried out. This time allows the tooth socket to be verified and completely clear of infection or inflammation.
The second stage is approximately 8 weeks later when the gum is opened and an abutment is fixed to the implant. Once the abutment is placed, the gum tissue is then closed around, but not over, the abutment. Afterwards, the gums must heal for one or two weeks before impressions are made of the mouth and remaining teeth in order to recreate the perfect fake teeth implants. These impressions are the key to making a realistic-looking artificial tooth
Are dental implants painful?
The dental implant procedure should not involve any pain. You may be sedated during the procedure and given local anaesthetic. At your consultation appointment, we will talk you through the procedure. You may experience minor discomfort for a few days following the procedure.
Are dental implants expensive?
Dental implants costs depend on the number of variables such as implants required and the complexity of the treatment. It’s difficult to give a more precise cost per implant because each procedure is unique to the patient and their individual situation. The cost of single, multiple or full-mouth dental implants depend upon many factors, including the condition of the jawbone and the customised recommended treatment. That’s why the diagnostic consultation is so important to thoroughly assess what can be done, recommended treatment options and the all-important associated costs.
